Does agnostic mean atheist?
I suspect Thomas Henry Huxley open_in_new didn't like thinking he was an atheist, so that crafty devil found a paradoxical way to say the same thing: agnostic.
OMG.
Both words have the prefix "a", meaning "without". Then, "gnostic" refers to knowledge of whether god exists, while "theist" refers to belief in god.*
Agnostic: Without knowledge of whether god exists.
Atheist: Without belief in god.
So, if someone asks "Does god exist?", & my answer is "I don't know.", then I'm probably agnostic...
& also atheist.
How does that also make you atheist?
If I don't know whether god exists, then I can't also actively believe in him.
Example: If I don't know whether I have a parachute on my back, will I jump out of a plane? Not if I have a will to live! Because I don't actively believe I have a parachute.
But, even a lot of people who say they believe in god don't act like he exists
Would that mean they might be... ...atheists?

Just identify however seems right to you, believe what you please, & as long as you're not harming anyone, don't let me nor anyone else tell you what to do nor who you are!
