“Mono…” means one. “Poly…” means more than one. “…gamy” refers to marriage. “…amory” refers to love. Romantic, no?

Examples

• Monogamy & polyamory are not opposites. Someone who is or wants to be married to only one person might also be in love with additional people. This tends to work best when the two spouses agree.

• Someone else might only love one person while in or planning to be in a marriage with multiple people. This is monoamory & polygamy. It’s something that a Mormon & a Muslim might have in common. Though, they’re not likely to meet at a bar.

• Someone who is polygamous & polyamorous hopefully has a lot of time & money.

• Someone who is monogamous & monoamorous might just now be wondering whether they actually are…
