Tip: A strainer will help rinse the rice, but isn't necessary.
Rinse the rice.
Tip: If you have a strainer, then you can do this while the water boils.
Put the water in the pot, then on high heat until it boils.
Tip: Covering the pot with the lid may make the water boil faster and keep it from evaporating.
When the water is boiling, add the rice.
Stir briefly, then reduce heat to a very light simmer (usually low).
Cover the pot with the lid, then let simmer for 25 minutes.
Turn off heat, then let sit, covered, for 10 minutes.
Open the pot then fork the rice.
Eat it: Great, if you're hungry.
Refrigerate it in a sealed container: Reheats well in the microwave.
Refrigerate it in an open container: After a few hours, up to a day or so, it will be prefect for fried rice.
